Elderly US woman shocked to receive racy new car licence plate
Florida Senior Woman Surprised by Naughty License Plate
Elderly US woman shocked to receive - An unexpected twist has unfolded in a Florida retirement community after a senior citizen received a license plate with a playful, suggestive message. Nancy Dello Stritto, a 76-year-old resident of Pompano Beach, expressed surprise and concern when she found her new plate numbered "SQZ A55." The plate's content sparked a mix of reactions from her neighbors, with some advising her to swap it out while others encouraged her to embrace the novelty.
"I don’t think a senior who is almost 77 will be driving around with a plate that has that to say," Dello Stritto told CBS News in Miami. "How could that pass inspection?"
Initially, Dello Stritto didn’t notice anything unusual when the plate arrived in the mail. She said she was expecting a replacement and only realized the issue after reviewing the number. Despite her initial dismay, she has decided to retain the plate, saying it’s "just to see what happens." "I’m resigned to it; maybe it was destined for it to be on my car," she remarked. "I can handle it if I get a few honks here and there. Actually, being over 70, I might like a few honks."
License Plate Production and Replacement Process
Florida’s license plate system has a unique history, with plates manufactured at a state prison in North Florida for nearly a century. These plates are then distributed through state agencies. Officials in Broward County have stated that plates deemed offensive can be exchanged free of charge, though the specific criteria for such replacements remain unclear.
The incident has sparked discussions about the appropriateness of license plate designs, particularly for older drivers. While Dello Stritto’s situation is notable, it highlights a broader practice where seemingly risqué numbers are assigned without prior review, leaving recipients to deal with the surprise firsthand.
