Man who killed boy in play park jailed for 35 years
A 25-Year-Old Convicted in Play Park Shooting Receives 35-Year Sentence
Man who killed boy in play - A 25-year-old man was sentenced to 35 years in prison after shooting dead a 15-year-old boy during a family music festival at Pleasance Park in Ladbroke Grove, west London. The incident, which took place on 21 July 2024, left a second individual unharmed when Boumzough’s firearm jammed, prompting him to flee the scene.
Boumzough, who has no fixed address, was found guilty of murder and attempted murder following a trial at Woolwich Crown Court. Judge Simon James condemned his actions as "callous and cold-blooded," emphasizing the tragedy of losing a teenager with "his whole life to realise his dreams and aspirations."
Family Grief and Emotional Impact
Rene Graham’s mother, Janay John-Francois, voiced her anguish after the boy’s death. She stated:
"I cannot begin to describe the depth of my pain after losing my precious angel. The emptiness and heartbreak, there are no words that can capture the agony of my loss."
The judge highlighted how the family’s grief resonated deeply, noting their emotional pain as "the agony of every parent's worst nightmare."
More than a year passed before Boumzough was arrested and charged. Police had offered a £20,000 reward for information leading to his capture. CCTV footage revealed him calmly approaching the children’s play area before firing a single shot. Later clips showed him pursuing a man, though the weapon jammed and he escaped.
Proud of His Crimes
A video found on Boumzough’s phone depicted him rapping about the incident, including the line:
"Don't you hate it when your ting jams? I was prepared to take a soul, but Allah had a different plan."
The judge remarked that the recording demonstrated Boumzough’s "proud and boastful" attitude toward his actions, with no sign of remorse.
Det Ch Insp Alison Foxwell of the Metropolitan Police led the investigation. She commented:
"While only a small number of people came forward, I would like to thank those individuals who provided statements and supported the investigation, including attending court, who refused to allow a dangerous individual such as Boumzough to live amongst them."
Boumzough’s sentence includes life imprisonment with a minimum term of 35 years and 169 days, reflecting the severity of his crimes.
