A 61-Year-Old Swedish Man Sentenced to Four Years for Forcing Wife into Sexual Encounters with 120 Men

Conviction Based on Coercion and Surveillance

Swedish man jailed for four years - A 61-year-old Swedish man has been sentenced to four years and five months in prison for compelling his wife into sexual acts with more than 120 individuals. The court determined he controlled her through threats of violence and security cameras, leading to convictions for attempted rape, aggravated pimping, assault, and unlawful threats. The trial took place in Härnösand, a coastal town in eastern Sweden.

Man's Defense and Court's Ruling

The defendant consistently denied wrongdoing, claiming he had only arranged consensual encounters. However, the court ruled against him, stating he had "ruthlessly exploited" the woman. His actions included organizing sexual services and pressuring his wife to engage with clients who traveled to their remote farm in Kramfors.

International Attention and Similar Cases

The case has drawn global scrutiny, with some likening it to Dominique Pelicot’s situation in France. Pelicot was found guilty of drugging his wife and allowing multiple men to rape her over nine years. In this instance, the Swedish man used threats of death, petrol, and physical harm to maintain dominance.

“The man had ruthlessly exploited the woman,” the court stated.

Woman's Escape and Evidence

“She knew the camera locations and used a blind spot to escape before contacting the police,” reported SVT.

The woman’s awareness of the surveillance system allowed her to evade detection temporarily. The court found she had been influenced to perform sexual acts, broadcast them online, and attract additional clients, often through "prolonged nagging and with unpleasant and condescending language."

Dismissed Charges and Legal Context

Eight rape charges were dismissed because the court could not confirm her participation was involuntary, and one case lacked clear evidence of specific acts. Swedish law permits rape charges for sexual assaults equivalent in severity to intercourse. The man was convicted of one attempted rape count.

Financial Penalty and Convictions of Other Men

As part of the sentence, the court ordered the man to pay 200,000 krona (£15,900) in damages. While 120 men were linked to the sexual services, only 29 were formally charged. Of these, 28 were found guilty of collectively purchasing 56 acts, with two receiving prison terms and the rest given suspended sentences or probation.
