Sooryavanshi, 15, hits record-breaking 11-ball fifty
Sooryavanshi 15 hits record breaking 11 ball - Teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi made headlines in the Indian Premier League with a stunning 11-ball half-century, setting a new benchmark in List A cricket. The 15-year-old smashed 50 runs in just 11 deliveries during an India A innings against Sri Lanka A, showcasing his explosive talent in the 50-over format.
Sooryavanshi's innings was a masterclass in aggression, as he scored 94 off 29 balls in a total of 377-9. His strike rate was exceptional, with only one dot ball in his fifty and five sixes among the 10 scoring deliveries. The feat included 10 fours and eight sixes, marking a remarkable display of power and precision.
Previously, the fastest half-century in 50-over cricket was Thisara Perera’s 13-ball innings for the Sri Lankan Army in 2021. The world record for the quickest international half-century remains 16 balls, achieved by AB de Villiers and Matthew Forde.
India’s T20 squad for upcoming series
Sooryavanshi was notably absent from India’s full squad for the upcoming ODI series against England. However, he was included in the T20 side for matches against Ireland and England next month, raising hopes for his international debut. The T20 games will begin on 26 June, with the five-match series against England starting on 1 July.
The ODI fixtures begin on 14 July, featuring three matches. The squad includes Shubman Gill as captain, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli (if he clears a fitness test). Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is also part of the team, while batters Yashasvi Jaiswal and all-rounder Hardik Pandya are left out.
