Trump to attend World Cup final and present trophy

Trump to attend World Cup final - Donald Trump, the U.S. president, has been confirmed to participate in the 2026 World Cup final, where he will assist in awarding the trophy, according to FIFA president Gianni Infantino. The tournament, which began on 11 June, will be held across Canada, Mexico, and the United States, with the U.S. hosting 78 of the 104 matches.

Plans for the Final

Infantino, who has grown close to Trump, shared the news with Fox. "We will be together with the president enjoying the final and handing the trophy to the winner, of course," he said. When asked if Trump would present the trophy alongside him, Infantino replied: "Of course, we are together all the time."

Trump's Schedule

"Trump likes to 'leave people watching,' and has not yet attended a game due to his busy schedule," explained Andrew Giuliani, the executive director of the White House's World Cup task force.

Last week, Trump participated in a UFC event at the White House, marking his latest appearance in the sports world. He was recently seen in New York, where he became the first U.S. president to watch an NBA Finals game. The Knicks lost 111-115 to the Spurs in game three.

Previous World Cup Involvement

Earlier this year, Trump stayed on the winners' podium at MetLife Stadium after giving the Club World Cup trophy to Reece James of Chelsea. This action confused some players who expected him to exit immediately. James noted, "They told me he was going to present the trophy and then leave, but he wanted to stay."

Other Events and Queries

During the World Cup, over 300 drones were seized at U.S. sites. Meanwhile, concerns have been raised about whether changes to the final group stage games have introduced unfair advantages. Questions also linger about whether England fans in Boston will emulate Scotland's approach to supporting their team.
