Afghan Boxer Returns to Athens Court in Scottish Aid Worker’s Death Case

Elisabeth Ross, a 38-year-old woman from Edinburgh known to loved ones as Lisa, was discovered by a homeless individual on July 18. She had been volunteering with a refugee assistance organization in Athens. Ross arrived in Greece on June 26 and resided in the Keratsini district of Piraeus until July 10.
According to police statements, Ahmadzai transported Ross’s body in a suitcase to an abandoned location after the alleged killing. The Organized Crime Directorate’s official statement noted: “In particular, it emerged that the 26-year-old placed the body in a suitcase and transported it to the abandoned site.”
Ross is believed to have passed away several days before her body was discovered. Following the discovery, Greek authorities contacted Interpol, enabling American officials to identify the victim through fingerprint analysis.
Post-Murder Actions and Suspect’s Wife
After the alleged homicide, Ahmadzai reportedly sent multiple messages from Ross’s mobile phone to her contacts before powering down the device. Greek publications Proto Thema and Ta Nea reported that he purchased a new phone and texted Ross’s friends in Athens, pretending to be an unnamed jihadist who claimed responsibility for the killing due to religious motives.
Ahmadzai’s wife, Alaina Hall, a United States citizen, informed police that she suspected her husband’s involvement when she awoke to discover him missing from their apartment. She subsequently tracked his phone to Ross’s residence.
Ahmadzai was escorted from the courthouse on Wednesday. The investigation has been conducted by Greece’s Organized Crime Directorate.
