The Dressing-Room Confrontation

In one of the most charged sequences of the series, Guardiola addresses his players ahead of a home fixture against Chelsea, his voice heavy with frustration and sorrow over the captain’s exit.

“So sad, what happened with Kyle,” he says. “It was so easy for him to come to me [and say] ‘I’m tired’. But you cannot behave as a captain the way he has done it. You cannot, in the toughest moments in our lives.”

The precise conduct Guardiola was referencing remains ambiguous, though the documentary does include a heated exchange between the two men following a defeat at Anfield in December 2024. In that match, Walker was caught turning over possession to Luis Diaz, who converted the resulting penalty for Liverpool.

Back in the dressing room after the Anfield loss, Guardiola made his point bluntly:

“Kyle has to know that if you lose the ball it’s a goal.”

The remark provoked a sharp retort from the defender:

“Every meeting, it’s my name.”

“Maybe because you’re a captain,” Guardiola replied.

“OK. You didn’t want me to be your captain,” Walker shot back.
