The incident occurred when a car drove through a fence, entering the outdoor space where young children were playing. Emergency services, including North West Ambulance Service personnel, rushed to the scene. The two-year-old was hospitalized with suspected severe trauma, while the other two children received treatment for less serious harm.

A spokesperson for the nursery described the event as “extremely distressing.” They emphasized their commitment to aiding the affected children, their families, and staff, stating they were actively coordinating with local authorities to investigate the cause of the crash.

“We can confirm an incident occurred today at our Sunny Days Nursery setting in Ellesmere Port involving a vehicle entering an outdoor play area. This is an extremely distressing incident and our immediate focus is supporting the children affected, their families and the nursery staff who have experienced a traumatic incident,” the representative said.

Arrest and Investigation

A 63-year-old woman was taken into custody on suspicion of causing serious injury through dangerous driving. Police confirmed the crash was deemed an isolated event, with officers remaining at the scene to fully determine the circumstances.

Local MP’s Reaction

Local Member of Parliament Justin Madders conveyed his condolences, noting the crash’s impact on the community. “My thoughts are with the young child who has been seriously injured and their family during what must be an unimaginably difficult time,” he said. “I am also thinking of the other children involved, their families, and the nursery staff who have experienced a traumatic incident.”
