By-election as a Key Test
With former Health Secretary Wes Streeting and Burnham positioning themselves as possible contenders, speculation about a leadership contest has grown. Streeting has already confirmed his intent to join the race, encouraging members to support Burnham in Makerfield. Burnham noted on the BBC’s Any Questions programme that he would enter the contest if it began, but stressed the need to rally support from the Parliamentary Labour Party.
