Body of Missing Boy, 15, Recovered from Reservoir

Body of missing boy 15 found – Specialist search teams located the body of a 15-year-old boy in Cowbury Reservoir, Stalybridge, Tameside, on Saturday evening. Greater Manchester Police (GMP) confirmed the discovery after the teenager was reported in trouble at 18:30 BST. A police spokesperson stated that formal identification had been completed and the family had been notified of the tragedy.

“This is nothing short of devastating,” said Ch Insp Helen Baxter. “My thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the young boy who sadly lost his life in such awful circumstances.” She emphasized the importance of safety near open water, urging the public to avoid cooling off in reservoirs, rivers, canals, or ponds without caution.

Meanwhile, another search for a missing boy continues in Salford. Police reported he encountered difficulties in the River Irwell at Clifton Country Park on Saturday afternoon. The boy was last seen shortly before 17:00 BST, and officers remain at the scene. A spokesperson added: “Emergency services and specialist teams are still working there. The incident is ongoing.”

Other Water-related Incidents This Summer

Authorities highlighted that several drownings and rescues have occurred during the summer’s intense heat. In addition to the 15-year-old from Tameside, a 22-year-old man named Brody Leach died in the River Severn on Friday morning. Earlier, a man succumbed to an accident at an Essex beach, while a 50-year-old man was pronounced dead at Aberavon beach after struggling in the sea off Wales’ south coast.

HM Coastguard also reported that 20 teenagers were safely retrieved from choppy waters near the Lancashire coast. The rescue happened on Friday evening in Fleetwood after the group ventured into rough seas “a significant distance out from the sea wall.”

Public Safety Warnings

Police have issued reminders about the risks of water activities, citing the recent events as a “sad reminder” of the dangers posed by open water. They encourage people to remain vigilant, especially during warm weather, and to prioritize safety when near reservoirs or rivers.
