Dog rescued from Ben Nevis suspected to have eaten discarded cannabis

Dog Rescued from Ben Nevis After Suspected Cannabis Ingestion

Dog rescued from Ben Nevis suspected – A black Labrador named Tokyo was saved from the UK’s highest peak following a suspected incident of consuming discarded cannabis. The dog, owned by Christina Bluhme of Esher, Surrey, collapsed midway up Ben Nevis during a recent trip to Scotland. The situation prompted an emergency response from the Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team, who transported Tokyo to a local veterinarian in Fort William.

Bluhme recounted the ordeal, expressing relief as the dog fully recovered by the following day. She emphasized that the veterinary team believed Tokyo had ingested cannabis left on the trail, which led to a critical decline in her condition. The dog lost mobility in its legs and experienced periods of unconsciousness, leaving Bluhme fearing for its life.

“I genuinely thought I was going to lose her,” Bluhme said, reflecting on the harrowing experience. “Her legs gave out, and she drifted in and out of consciousness.”

Bluhme credited the rescuers for their pivotal role in the operation. “Carrying a 25kg Labrador down Ben Nevis was impossible on my own,” she added. “Their kindness, professionalism, and calm support made all the difference during one of the most terrifying days I’ve ever faced.”

The rescue team also acknowledged the vet team’s efforts, stating they were pleased with Tokyo’s recovery. “It’s now suspected that Tokyo, a typically active working dog, had ingested something causing severe illness,” a spokesperson noted. “Many thanks to Crown Vets for their care and to Tokyo’s owner for the updates and photos.”

Additional Rescues on Ben Nevis

Meanwhile, the mountain’s rescue operations extended beyond Tokyo’s case. Reports highlighted a separate incident involving a storm-stricken hiker who spent the night taking shelter behind a boulder. The challenging conditions, including strong winds and avalanches, led to multiple rescues throughout the day.
