Ukraine and Russia Suffer Fresh Casualties as Aerial Bombardment Escalates

Ninoda.com – At least five Ukrainians were killed and over ten more wounded in a renewed barrage of Russian strikes, according to government officials. In parallel, seven people lost their lives across Russia following overnight Ukrainian drone operations.

Kyiv Hit by Ballistic Missiles and Drone Attacks

Air-raid sirens sounded four separate times in the capital since Saturday evening. Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that at least six residents, among them a child, sustained injuries from the bombardment.

President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that ballistic missiles struck both Kremenchuk and Kryvyi Rih, then added:

“Wherever the Russians can reach with their ballistic missiles, they strike civilian infrastructure.”

Fires broke out across Kyiv, including at a book market in the Pochayna district. Charred volumes lay scattered on pavements as crews worked to extinguish remaining flames.

Voices from the Rubble

Valentina, 69, whose husband ran a stall at the market, sifted through debris and identified familiar titles among the wreckage:

“All these books in the street were from my husband’s stall in the market – I recognise them on the floor.”

She continued:

“You never think that it will happen to you.”

Nearby, Luba, a 42-year-old vinyl record shop owner, estimated her losses at 500,000 hryvnias (approximately £8,262) in destroyed stock. Many of the records she lost were rare pressings with no remaining copies.

“This business was my baby – many of the vinyls destroyed were rare and irreplaceable,”

she told the BBC before adding:

“I want Russia to disappear from this Earth.”

Other Ukrainian Cities Under Fire

In Kryvyi Rih, a 44-year-old man previously reported missing was recovered dead beneath collapsed masonry. A further fatality was confirmed there, alongside injuries to fourteen workers at a steelworks.

Zaporizhzhia lost two residents in their sixties when their home was obliterated. One additional person was killed in Sumy, Zelensky said.

The president noted that thirteen regions had come under attack during the week, with Russia deploying more than 1,550 strike drones, close to 1,560 guided aerial bombs, and 62 missiles.

Moscow’s Account of Targets

The Russian defence ministry claimed Saturday night’s Kyiv strikes were aimed at a FirePoint plant manufacturing components for Ukrainian Flamingo missiles and a separate factory producing drone parts. It also said it struck the Kremenchuk oil refinery in Poltava region, which it described as supplying fuel to the Ukrainian armed forces, and a steelworks in Kryvyi Rih alleged to have been fabricating weapons components.

Moscow further asserted that a dry cargo vessel operating near Odesa was hit while carrying military materiel.

Casualties on Russian Soil

The governor of Rostov in south-western Russia announced five deaths following overnight strikes. His counterpart in Belgorod, which borders Ukraine, confirmed a woman was killed when a bus was struck.

In Moscow, an 83-year-old man died after a drone crashed into his vicinity, and three others were wounded, Mayor Sergei Sobyanin reported. He stated that roughly one-third of the drones Ukraine launched at the capital had been shot down.

A warehouse belonging to Wildberries — often described as Russia’s equivalent of Amazon — was struck in Koledino, some 25 km (15.5 miles) from central Moscow. Footage captured a blaze and a towering column of smoke above the facility. The retailer has been repeatedly targeted since July, when Kyiv explained it was hitting logistics nodes Russians used to procure military equipment and to cut supply lines feeding their army.

Russia’s defence ministry said air-defence units intercepted and destroyed 822 Ukrainian drones over the country.

NATO Jet Shoots Down Drone Over Romania

The Romanian defence ministry announced that a Spanish fighter jet downed a drone which had crossed into its airspace near the borders with Ukraine and Moldova. The craft entered from the Moldovan side and was engaged by an F-18 operating on NATO duties at 05:01 local time (02:01 GMT) on Sunday. Debris fell in an unpopulated area of the region.
