The attack, which occurred approximately at 7:00 PM EST, has led to varying degrees of injury among the victims, according to the Fire Department of New York.

Victim Conditions and Response

The Fire Department of New York disclosed in a statement shared with US media that one person sustained critical injuries, two incurred moderate harm, and the remaining two suffered minor wounds.

The injuries were reported as a result of the stabbing, with the NYFD stating the situation unfolded during the late evening hours.

NYPD captured the suspect following a manhunt, as authorities worked to secure the area after the incident. The suspect was later detained by Amtrak police, as per ABC News.

Security Preparations for Trump’s Visit

The attack coincides with heightened security measures across the city, as preparations intensify for US President Donald Trump’s arrival on Monday to watch the New York Knicks compete against the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA finals.

Law enforcement told the BBC’s US partner CBS News that the stabbing was classified as a random act of violence.

Penn Station, located directly beneath Madison Square Garden, will host Game 3 of the NBA finals on Monday evening. City officials announced additional safety protocols, including a no-bag policy and the cancellation of an outdoor watch party near the arena due to Trump’s presence.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani will also be in attendance at the event. All those affected by the stabbing were transported to Bellevue Hospital for treatment.
