Hayden Panettiere, Star of Heroes and Nashville, Dies at 36

A Career Spanning Three Decades

Panettiere’s body of work stretched across film and television, touching genres from romantic comedy to supernatural thriller. Her final major television commitment was the country-music drama Nashville, which ran for six seasons between 2012 and 2018. The role that catapulted her into mainstream prominence arrived in 2006. Cast as Claire Bennet — a cheerleader gifted with rapid cellular-regeneration abilities — in the sci-fi series Heroes, Panettiere became a household name. Early Years and Child Stardom

Born in August 1989 and raised in Palisades, New York, Panettiere grew up under the guidance of her mother Lesley Vogel, an actress and producer, and her father Skip, a former firefighter. She had one younger brother, Jansen Panettiere, who died at age 28 in 2023.

Her first professional credit came at just four years old, when she was cast on the long-running soap opera One Life to Live. By the late 1990s and early 2000s her résumé already included voice work in the animated feature A Bug’s Life, as well as guest spots on Ally McBeal and Malcolm in the Middle. Personal Life and Motherhood

In the late 2000s Panettiere began a relationship with Ukrainian former professional boxer Wladimir Klitschko. Their daughter Kaya was born in December 2014. The couple separated in 2018.

Speaking publicly about the difficult period following her daughter’s birth, Panettiere disclosed that she had entered a treatment facility to address postpartum depression. On the US talk show Live With Kelly And Michael in 2015, she offered context:

Earlier this year she published a memoir, This Is Me: A Reckoning, in which she detailed the pressures of growing up in front of cameras, alongside later battles with addiction, abuse, and eventual recovery.

In a May interview with the BBC’s US partner CBS News, Panettiere recalled how her mother had brought her into audition rooms as an “eight-month-old baby.” She described the relentless pace that followed:

“It went from there and progressed into 50 commercials by the time I was five… It just never stopped.”
