Jilted Bride Who Went Ahead With Wedding Gets Engaged
The Unconventional Decision That Turned Her Life Around
Jilted bride who went ahead – Kayley Stead, now 30, made headlines in 2022 when she chose to continue her wedding despite being left at the altar. Her bold choice sparked a viral moment, with many guests on hand agreeing to embrace the chaos. The footage from that day highlights her joy as she wore her wedding dress, delivered heartfelt speeches, and danced, all without a groom by her side.
“We’d just come out of covid, and I hadn’t seen friends and family for a long time,” Kayley shared with BBC Radio Wales Breakfast. “People were traveling from Ireland and Scotland, and I spent just shy of £12,000 of my own money on the event.”
Four years after the unexpected turn of events, Kayley has found a new partner and is set to exchange vows in April 2028. Her current fiancé, Richard Perrott, 31, is the man she now resides with in Swansea. “I’m going to invest in AirTags because he needs them all over him,” she joked, adding, “I’ll know where he is at all times.”
Kayley’s decision to press on with the ceremony was driven by a mix of determination and a desire for celebration. She mentioned the nacho bar as a key motivator, recalling, “I had a cheese fountain, salsa, guacamole, jalapenos, and the chips. I had the whole works. I love it.”
After the wedding, Kayley’s original plans to honeymoon in Turkey were abandoned. Instead, she traveled to New York with a friend, creating her own version of the dream getaway. “I did things by myself, like having breakfast in a window with a croissant,” she reflected. “It was such a poignant moment. It felt like a movie.”
Reconnecting with a Past Flame
Kayley’s relationship with Richard began during their university days in Midsomer Norton, Somerset. They first met on the same course a decade ago, with Richard asking her out in their first year—only for her to decline. Later, in their third year, she invited him, but he hesitated. Their paths crossed again years later when Richard reached out to offer support after learning about her jilted wedding. The two rekindled their bond and began dating two years ago.
“He popped the question during a visit to our old campus at the University of Wales Trinity St David in Carmarthen,” Kayley said. “It was a complete shock. We’d talked about marriage, but he kept saying, ‘I don’t know whether I do or not’ to keep me guessing.”
Her story has inspired others who’ve faced similar setbacks. “People often retreat into their own bubble after break-ups,” Kayley noted. “But reclaiming my strength and love that day transformed me. It made me more confident and taught me to stand up for myself.”
As she prepares for her upcoming wedding, Kayley has already decided on a central feature: a grand nacho bar. “It’ll be bigger and more impressive than before,” she said. “That’s my focus now.”
