Three Hospitalized Following Sea Rescue Incident Near Essex Pier
Ninoda.com – Emergency responders attended to three individuals who encountered trouble in the water close to Clacton-on-Sea on Saturday afternoon. The call for help came in shortly after 16:30 BST, with services converging on the scene near the pier.
According to Essex Police, one man in his fifties remains in a critical yet stable condition at the hospital. The other two victims—a young man in his twenties and a teenage girl—are also being treated but are reportedly “recovering well,” the police force confirmed.
Recent Tragedies Add to Community Concern
This rescue follows another serious incident that occurred just days earlier in West Mersea, located near Colchester. On Wednesday, Shally Rahman, aged 41, and her daughter Samiha Rahman, 15, lost their lives while attempting to rescue a seven-year-old family member from the water. The child continues to receive medical care in a critical state.
Ch Insp Stuart Austin, who serves as the Clacton district commander, acknowledged the community’s emotional response to these consecutive events.
“I’m acutely aware there will be a sense of shock and worry given recent incidents elsewhere in north Essex in the last week.”
The commander emphasized that the three people involved in Saturday’s rescue all knew one another. He noted that the seafront area had been particularly busy, meaning many witnesses observed the emergency unfold.
“First and foremost, our thoughts are with those affected by the incident on the seafront yesterday.”
Ch Insp Austin praised the coordinated response from all emergency services, noting they worked professionally to secure the area and enable medical teams to assist the victims. He also made a specific request regarding public communication about the event.
“I’m also aware the area was busy, and the incident would have been seen by a lot of people. Emergency services were quickly on the scene, and all services worked incredibly professionally to clear the area to allow for medical professionals to help the three people involved.”
