Search under way after Boeing 737 plane – Authorities in Pakistan have initiated a search operation after a Boeing 737 cargo plane vanished from radar off the coast of Karachi. The aircraft, operated by K2 Airways, was carrying five crew members and was traveling from Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, to the city. The plane lost communication with air traffic controllers at 21:21 local time (16:21 GMT) on Tuesday, according to the Pakistan airport authority.
K2 Airways, a private cargo airline headquartered in Karachi, reported that the plane had indicated a navigation system issue just minutes before its abrupt descent. The incident has raised concerns about aviation safety in the region, with officials coordinating efforts to locate the missing aircraft.
Flightradar24, a flight-tracking platform, shared preliminary data showing the plane experienced a sudden altitude drop. Multiple agencies, including the navy and air force, have been mobilized to assist in the search. The airport authority confirmed that the operation is ongoing, though no further details have been disclosed.
Company Background and Statement
K2 Airways, established in 2018, has been operating cargo flights within Pakistan. In a Wednesday statement, the airline identified the five crew members on board and expressed cooperation with the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority and other government bodies.
“We continue to pray, earnestly, for the safety of our colleagues,” the statement read.
The last significant aviation incident in Pakistan occurred in 2020, when a Pakistan International Airlines flight crashed while landing in Karachi, resulting in the deaths of 97 individuals. Only two passengers survived that tragedy.
